~ The
Quilt
Dear
Grandma,
I
know I've said it many times, but I love calling you "Grandma."
When I lost mine a month after losing my mother, I could
not get over how cruel life was. I saw you a few months
later and you didn't say much, only hugged me and said
you were sorry. "You just call me Grandma now!"
You have given me much in the past eleven years. Now it's
my turn to return the favor. I am so sorry you lost Grandpa.
It
was a privilege and a pleasure to make you this quilt.
I hope it contains memories of happiness and laughter.
Grandpa hugged you all the time when he wore these clothes,
and although he cannot wear them anymore, the hugs remain.
I was very careful not to let them out when I cut and
stitched. I was also able to add some of mine, Kate's,
Aimee, and Mandy's hugs too. They took turns sitting on
my lap while I sewed, filling bobbins and handing pin
after pin to me. Paul's, Patricia's, and Dan's hugs were
added when they gave design ideas and sat next to me as
I stitched buttons, wrote the label, and ran countless
ideas by them. It was truly a group effort and the whole
group's hugs are in every stitch.
I
love you Grandma. I hope this quilt can make you smile
and hold you close, when we cannot. You are not alone
and our love is with you - just like Grandpa's - all the
time.
Love,
