Exploring Womanhood > Journals

If You're Interested in Writing a Journal With Us . . .

The journals on Exploring Womanhood and StorkNet are some of our most popular features. Because we receive several offers each week, we are asking potential journalists to read the following the information and respond along with your offer.

Journals can be a big success, based on some very essential components: topic, author's style of writing, length of project (will this be a short-term journal with an attainable goal and predictable timeline, long-term journey through a life-phase, etc.), and the tone (is the author always depressing/whining/complaining or does she have a healthy/appropriate balance of emotion in the journal).

Also, concerns about whether the author will tire of writing and truly has the time, energy and interest to send us updates on a regular basis, are all things we take into account when choosing journalists. With that in mind, please respond to the following:

Name:
Email:

Subject of Journal:

Will this be a long-term or shorter journal?

How often will you be sending us updates?

What types of side issues might you discuss? Side issues can add to a story, but they are not a requirement, so please do not feel badly if you cannot think of any. Here are some examples: you may be moving soon, a job change is possible, a parent is ill, husband is in the service, your dog is expecting puppies, children are going off to preschool, high school, college soon, you are taking up a new, exciting hobby.

Do you foresee problems that may arise that could prevent you from updating/completing your journal? Here are examples of some things you may know already could be foreseeable problems and interrupt your journal: marriage problems, depression, illness in the family. It is important to think about whether you could write through these issues.

Please send us a sample issue: It can be an introduction, a sample of what might be halfway through the journal, or a sample of something else you have written.

Do you have any privacy issues that we need to be concerned about in placing your story on the internet? If you are concerned about privacy on the Internet, you may want to keep your last name private or use a pseudonym. Think of these things now before you write so that we are consistent and do not have to go back and make major changes in your journal.

Miscellaneous . . . Let us know your age, and a little background about yourself, why you'd like to write a journal, and anything else you think we should know.

Thank you!
