Spiced Trivet

Add the scent of cinnamon and cloves to your dining room table this holiday season with this dual purpose trivet.

Craft - Spiced Trivet example

Materials:

  • Two 10 inches by 12 ¼ inches pieces of fabric, one with a fall/Thanksgiving theme and the other with a winter/Christmas theme.
  • 1 1/3 yards lace which looks nice on both sides.
  • Thread in coordinating colors
  • 24 long cinnamon sticks
  • ½ lb whole cloves

Directions:

  1. Sew lace to the edges of the right side of one piece of fabric.

  2. Place two fabrics right side together and sew both short sides and one long side.

  3. Turn right side out and mark three lines evenly spaced.

  4. From right side sew on each line to stitch channels in the fabric perpendicular to the open long side.

  5. Fill channels with cinnamon sticks and cloves.

  6. Hand stitch the final side closed.

  7. When sealed gently crush the cinnamon sticks so the trivet lies flat.

  8. When you place a hot dish on the trivet the room will fill with the aroma of cinnamon and cloves. This is especially delicious when serving holiday pies!
