Matted Pictures

Matted PicturesThank you to StorkNet member Becky (BCraw1228) for sending us this idea!

Here's a small project for decorating a child's play room or bedroom. It is so simple and cost-efficient, you can do it anytime you change the room's theme. It's also a fun project to do with kids!

Materials:

  • Coloring pages of your choice (theme for a room, i.e. Pooh, Bob the Builder, Dora, etc.)

  • Crayons, markers, colored pencils or watercolor paints

  • Colored construction paper

  • One or two pieces of poster board paper (I used cereal boxes!)

  • Glue, scissors and a ruler & pencil

  • Tape, thumbtacks, or poster adhesive

Instructions:

  1. Color your pictures (you alone or you and child.)

  2. Cut the poster board (as many pieces as needed) so it is a "backing" to your picture. (The only purpose of the poster board is to make your paper sturdier.)

  3. Glue your picture back-side down to the poster board.

  4. Choose a sheet of construction paper for your picture. (This will become the "matting.")

  5. Measure and cut a square inside the construction paper to produce a mat that fits around your colored picture.

  6. Glue the mat onto the picture and let dry.

  7. Hang with tape, thumbtacks, or special adhesive for hanging posters.

One side note: With the poster board, you can create larger pictures, such as a collage, and do your own "creative matting." Copyright © 2002 StorkNet.com. All Rights Reserved.
