Wood Plaques

Wood PlaqueUse your favorite greeting cards or your favorite saying or poem to create these beautiful easy to make wall hangings.

Materials:

  • Unfinished wood plaque (available in most craft stores)
  • Wood stain
  • Modge Podge
  • Christmas card, greeting card or printed picture or poem
  • Fine sandpaper
  • Paint brush
  • Decorative hanger
  • Matches (if you choose to use a burnt edge like the examples)

Directions:

  1. Lightly sand then stain the wood plaque following the directions on the can of stain. Let dry.

  2. Prepare your paper (print out a poem or trim off the cover of a greeting card.)

  3. If desired, tear the edges of the paper for a rough decorative edge or carefully burn the edges a little bit at a time. Remove most of the burnt edge by rubbing between your fingers. The examples were made with burnt edges.

  4. Using a moderate amount of modge podge glue the paper to the front of the plaque.

  5. When dry apply an additional moderate coat of modge podge to seal and give a shiny finish.

  6. Attach a decorative hanger.
