Christmas Ornament Exchange 2002

GINGERBREAD GIRL
Made by kelseybean

Gingerbread girlMaterials:

  • Light tan felt
  • Fusible web
  • Christmas print fabric
  • Fabric glue
  • Button and other embellishments
  • Winter white and black fabric paint
  • Blush is desired
  • Thread or ribbon for hanging
  • Iron

Directions:

  1. Make patterns for a gingerbread girl and her dress.

  2. Cut out three pieces of felt for the girl and 2 pieces of fusible web in the shape of the girl.

  3. Layer the felt and fusible web and then use a warm iron to fuse it together. It will give the appearance of a cookie when done (kind of stiff and thick).

  4. Use the dress pattern on some Christmas-y material.

  5. Use fabric glue to place the dress on the cookie. I also added a button to the dress. You may add other embellishments if desired.

  6. I then used 'winter white' scribbler paint to make a dashed line around the entire front side of the cookie. This is also a good time to use black paint to make the eyes. Rub your finger in a bit of blush to give the gingerbread girl pink cheeks (not very cookie-like, but it adds something!).

  7. Once that dries, turn the cookie over and you may personalize it with someone's name and date with the winter white paint (it kind of looks like icing).

  8. Once the paint is set, you can use some thread or ribbon to make a way to hang the ornament. I like to use gold filament thread
