Christmas Ornament Exchange 2002

Ribbon and Bead Embellished Wooden Spools
Submitted by Kelly Birrell (KJ)

Ribbon and Bean Embellished Wooden SpoolsMaterials:

  • Empty wooden spools-any size you prefer
  • Ribbon-make sure it will fit the width of your spool snugly
  • A smaller width ribbon
  • Gold plated beads-I used 5mm, 6mm, and oval
  • Beading wire
  • Decorative bows to match the ribbon-I bought mine, but you can make your own
  • Hot glue gun and extra glue sticks
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Wrap widest ribbon around spool and hot glue it in place

  2. Wrap the smaller width ribbon around spool and hot glue in place

  3. Put beads on beading wire in any combination-I used 8-10 beads for small spools, 12-15 for large spools

  4. Cut the wire long enough to loop through spool and tie at the top

  5. Put two drops of glue at the base of the spool and glue the top beads in place to keep the beads from going up into the spool

  6. Put two drops of glue at the top inside of the spool to keep wire in place

  7. Tie a knot in the wire and cut off the excess

  8. Hot glue the knot in the wire to the back of the decorative bow
